NBA Playoffs: Bulls vs Cavs

A typical Saturday in Chicago

First, we catch the red line down to Wrigleyville. Of course there had to be a cubs game this Saturday. People were completely wasted and going crazy (I guess they won). I wish I had a video camera with me to film all the things going on out on the streets. 85% of the people were bleach blond girls with tight, tight cubs jerseys. So funny

Then we walked around for a bit before meeting up with some friends for dinner. Wings & sandwiches. Delicious. This restaurant was actually on tv: Man vs Food. We decided to check it out. The wings were great, the sandwich just ok.

After dinner, we head to the concert. The band's name is OK Go. Clark really likes them, so I've heard a few of their songs. The concert was way fun and probably one of the cleanest concerts I had ever been to. There were definitely drunks, but no one got out of control. The only weird thing was the 50 some year olds standing right next to us. It was kind of awkward. The man just stood there the whole time, but the wife definitely was singing along with the band. I hope I'm like that when I'm 50 (forcing my husband to go to a rock band concert with me) There was even talk about Mormons (the band just did a show in SLC. They talked mostly about polygamy though)

We used the money mom gave us for Christmas to help pay for the night! Thanks MOM!!

I feel like the luckiest girl in the world! I couldn't be happier. Clark and I have been best friends for a good 2 1/2 years now and we've decided to take the next step. June 26th (yep - this year and in 3 months)

The Story: While doing an internship last year in MN, I met some awesome girls I have become really good friends with. We decided we needed to do a girls weekend. I flew down to MN on a Friday night. It turned out to be my nephew's baptism (pics to come, I hope). On Saturday, we left the house around 7:30am. The girls had a church bball game. We came home and had Katie's delicious pb&cc pancakes (I crave them all the time!). It was about 11:00am and they said we needed to go out and have some fun. They packed the car full of so much stuff, like they were going on a road trip or something.
We left the house and went rock climbing and swimming at Lifetime. We showered at the gym and headed off to get pedicures. Well the stupid place messed everything up, so that plan was blown. We decided to stop by a ring shop and just take a look. Clark and I had been talking about going shopping and picking something, so I decided to get an early start. Well, conveniently there was bridal shop next store, so we went in. I borrowed my friends wedding ring to make it look more legit and to think that I was actually engaged. I made up a day of June 5th and you should have seen the face of these workers. Their eyes quickly looked down at my stomach, paused and then looked back up. Katie than turns to me and whispers, "They totally think it is a shotgun wedding." Yep the whole time she thought I was pregnant :)
I found a dress I kind of liked, so I called up my mom who happened to be in town because of the baptism. I wanted her to be able to see it. I told her I was wedding dress shopping with my friends and found something I liked. She then asked, "Are you engaged?!?!" I of course re-assured her no, no, Clark hasn't even asked Dad yet. It will probably happen in the next couple of weeks though. I wanted her to come that night, but my friends said no, they were starving and needed to get some food. The store didn't open until noon the next day. I was driving back to WI with a friend and I had to catch a bus in Milwaukee at 5pm to make it back to Chicago. I knew noon was not going to work, but my friends re-assured me that it didn't take that long to drive in WI and we'd be fine.
So we hopped in the car and drove back to Katie's house. We parked in her garage and was walking into her house when I noticed a few different things from when we left it that morning. It smelt delicious for one, but there was now syrup on her counter. I picked it up and turned to Katie and said, "What is going on. I know you don't have syrup in your house because we ate pancakes this morning and you don't like syrup." Katie and KJ kind of talked back and forth, and I said, "Are we in your house, I'm so confused. " I set the syrup down and turned around and saw candles on the table and a dozen yellow flowers (fav color). I made a puzzled look and than Clark came around from the corner. I think I kind of squeeled in delight (I had really been missing him the day before).
He came up and hugged me and I was still in shock. While we embraced my friends waved good-bye and headed out. Clark then pulled out a ring box, and got down on one knee. He was shaking so bad! He asked me three questions, in which I replied yes to all of them. "Do you love the Lord? Do you respect the priesthood? Will you marry me?" It was awesome and so surreal. He made me my favorite food, french toast and had chocolate milk (also one of my all time favorite things). After dinner he had me open a few gifts: snuggie (yep, we joke about it all time) and a relationship journal. We then watched my favorite movie, Money Pit. My friends came back later that night and we celebrated with gelato and sparking cider.
I married the man of my dreams. It's been a long journey in our relationship with a lot of ups and downs. We both have had to be very patient (him probably more than me). But we've become stronger through it all and I can say with out a doubt that I'm so excited to be sealed for time and all eternity to him!! I really am the luckiest girl in the world. He's faithful, he puts me first in his life, he works so hard, and is the kindest, most loving guy I have ever met. I guess I'm in love :)

Homemaking 101

Clark and I invited another couple over for dinner after church a few Sundays ago. Since it was St. Patricks Day, we decided we would have cornbeef and cabbage. Yep, never cooked that before and I was terrified. Trying things with Clark is fine, but trying with other people is a little scary. Having a crock pot would have been very helpful. But it turned out really good surprisingly. I'm so proud of myself :) I was supposed to have a before and after picture, but I forgot.

Restaurant Week

Wow, I haven't blogged in FOREVER!! Probably more than a month ago now, Chicago was having restaurant week: all the expensive, really nice restaurants were cheaper and more affordable for us poor people. We went to Nine. The best steak I ever eaten hands down, it was awesome. The meal started out with lobster soup (so good!), steak and for dessert, cotton candy (yep, I loved it and ate it all too)

I am a frequent rider of the Blue Line subway here in Chicago. I have met some extremely interesting people to say the least. Ther are often performers, showcasing a number of different talents. Some are good, while others are not...but one day while I was heading to Clark's apartment, I stepped out of the train to witness the most spectacular person yet in this particular subway station. A gal was tap dancing, playing the guitar AND the violin. Now you may ask how that is possible, I think only she will ever know. She had the perfect set-up: high volume of people, microphone plugged in, tap shoes on, guitar in place, and a violin strapped somehow to her sholder. Amazing I tell you! I hope she got a lot of money...

Chicago Eathquake

Apparently there was an earthquake near Dekalb (yep, I served there!) of a magnitude of 4.3 (what that means, I have no idea, but there wasn't much, if any damage) on February 10th. The next day while I was driving to work, there were a homeless man holding a sign that read: Help Earthquake Survivor Victim. So funny, I about died laughing. If only I had a camera, I would have taken a picture of him. I wonder if he got any money???

WHY?!?! Because I got a job!!! I am so unbelievably greatful to have finally found a full time job that has benefits and a 401K (after 90 days of course). It's close to where I live, great hours, very low stress job (terribly boring at times though), and free parking downtown. Life can't get better than this.
I work for a company called Orbit Medical. We sell medical equipment; i.e. wheelchairs, oxygen, canes, walkers...what ever DME you need, we've got it

It was my two roommates birthday and another awesome girl in the ward's in January, so we decided to throw a bday party for all of them. Then, the Haiti earthquake happened, so we turned it into a fundraiser party as well. If you donated money, we had a raffel. There was lots of random prizes (pig catapult, dozen cookies for 3 months, picture frame...). We ended up raising $208!!! The night was lots of fun and was for a good cause too. There's a guy in the ward who is from Haiti, thankfully his family is okay, just a little beaten up and bruised. I walked away with free movie passes. Clark and I went and saw The Lovely Bones, do not recommend it, super weird and disturbing.

While I was serving in Chicago, I had the incredible opportunity of meeting and teaching Laurie the gospel of Jesus Christ. She went through the temple last week and I was able to be there with her. Honestly, the best thing in the entire world! She has grown up spiritual so much, she just glowed. Yeah for the atonement!

I just realized these posts are WAY out of order... Anyways, Vertical Horizon was in town on Friday and were doing a free concert at the bookstore. We got there about a half hour early, thinking there would be lots of people. Yep, we were definitely amongest the first people there, so we sat extra close. There were some weird people there! This old guy sitting next to me knew all the words and was singing along the entire time. For the new songs, we busted out the cd case that has all the words and continued to sing along. It was an interesting experience, we were honestly the youngest people there (I guess the band did come out with their first cd when Marie and I were in middle school...high school for Katie(haha))

I was in MN again last weekend having some fun, since I'm extremely bored all the time in Chicago with nothing to do. I played in volleyball tournament (pics to come soon) and just had fun hanging out with the friends I met this summer. Katie got off work early one day and we hit up this park with lots of statues. Last Friday, I officially passed my national exam to be a certified therapeutic recreational specialist...YEAH! Now, I just need to find a job and make money, which is extremely difficult at this time. Maybe Obama will come up with a plan to help all of us poor college graduates who can't find a job

General Conference

General Conference came at such a needed time for me. I've definitely been in need of some extra spiritual boost lately. Things that stood out to me:
FIRST: develop a loving relationship with my Father in Heaven and in his son Jesus Christ
SECOND: I can receive personal revelation if I but take the necessary steps and seek for an answer. I need to learn how to better communicate with the Lord and know how he talks to me. Just like Elder Nelson says, I can have access to heaven in a matter of seconds, why aren't I praying?!
THIRD: the Holy Ghost is an amazing gift, I need to listen AT ALL TIMES
FOURTH: service, service and more service...wow have I slacked at that lately
FIFTH: blessings come to an eternal family, what am I doing to prepare for that and how can I be a better wife and mother
SIXTH: how could I ever deny the truthfulness of the Book of Mormon, especially after Elder Holland. I wish I spoke as boldly as he does, I think more people would be converted.

How grateful I am to know there are leaders on this earth who speak directly to GOD and help me along the path to return to him someday. I have a long ways to go and I need all the help I can get! I know that my Savior lives and I know he loves me for who I'm trying to become. I sometimes forget that he is there, just waiting for me to talk. I'm grateful I have the next 6 months to study and be spiritually uplifted by his chosen leaders.

Maple Grove Public Library

Today I decided I needed to get out of the house, to remove myself from all the surrounding distractions and focus on studying for my national exam I'm taking on Friday. I look up where the local library is and head on out.
I pull up at the same time as this weird looking man, who clearly lives out of his car. He's blasting his radio about the MN Twins baseball team (who barely made it to the playoffs). I walk in and discover there's a quiet room, just what I need. I sit down on the desk, bust out my books and laptop and away I go.
Mr. Man from the car decides to come in and sit at the desk right next to me. He busts out all sorts of things: 2 laptops, cd's, a tarp (not kidding), library dvd's, the newspaper, and I'm sure other random things.
I'm there for about 2 hours and leave to go get a hair cut (which is terrible by the way) and go work out. I thought the library was such a great idea and it was so quiet, that I headed back there afterwords to get some more studying in.
The room is a lot busier this time, but the same spot I was sitting at before was open. I discover that Mr. Man is still there as well, pirating away. I was there maybe ten minutes, when Mr. Man starts going CRAZY!!! He is yelling all sorts of cuss words and who knows what else. Everyone in the room kind of looks up over in my direction. I look confused and point to Mr. Man. He than pulls his headphones out of his laptop and the music starts blaring. He turns off the music and starts yelling bloody murder that we all need to go about our own business. The room quiets down for about 2 minutes and somebody coughs. Wow, did that set Mr. Man off. He yells, "If you can't hold in your cough, than maybe you shouldn't be in! And if you don't get out, I'm gonna kill ya all."
Uh...what?!?! From there, it only gets worse. Some brave man runs out of the room and goes up to the front desk, while the rest of us in the room are frozen. Soon, Mr. Man runs out of the room and two cops come in asking us all questions. I, being the lucky one sitting next to him, gets pulled off to the side and interviewed. They tape record the whole thing and ask for my ID and phone number. They tell me that I will be called later and will be asked to go into the station for a line-up to see if I can recognize him.
OKAY -- so much for a nice study hour at the library! I obviously got nothing done and how am I supposed to know what the man looks like. He was wearing an old cowboy hat and I didn't stare at him long enough to know what he looks like, especially after he threatened everyone in the room.
So much for public libraries, I'll stick to my distractions

There is a guy in the ward that is a firefighter. For FHE, we went and visited the station and got to try on all the equipment and sit in the trucks. It was a pretty fun night.

YSA Conference

I really have no good pictures from the YSA conference, but this picture makes it look like it was so much fun. The weekend was great, I loved it! I was on the committee that put everything together and I was personally was in charge of setting up housing for those traveling from far distances. It was a little crazy at times, but I don't believe anybody slept in their car. Sister Beck was in town and spoke to everone Friday night and to the ladies on Saturday morning. We had classes, games, service project, and a boat ride on the Mississippi (I wish I at least had a cool picture of the boat, but no). I also had the opportunity of checking everyone into the conference and making sure they all paid. What a sight that was. Can I just say, there are some pretty odd ducks out there!
I was exhausted by the end. On Monday, I completely crashed. I am getting old :(

Clark and I went and toured Sears Tower, which is really called something else now. But they had these glass box's that jetted out from the building, so it looked like you were hovering over downtown Chicago. It was pretty crazy.

The zoo in Chicago is pretty sweet and the best part, it's FREE!! We got to feed the cows, I was a little bit scared of them. Their tongue came out of nowhere and just grabbed the food. It definitely startled you. We also got to pet the ugly goats, they weren't very exciting.

Labor Day Weekend

Bethesda Hospital Internship is Complete

I made it through the 16 weeks! I couldn't have asked for a better internship. I only had to work 40/hrs a week, no weekends, and great co-workers. The only bad part was traffic -- I hate it. I wish they could offer me a full time job (they did offer me an on-call position), but there's not a position open
It was rather sad saying bye to some of my patients that I've worked with the entire time I was there, they cried. I learned a ton and working with individuals who have brain injuries helped me release that I always need to wear a helmet!! As my friends can atest to, I'm a little bit anal over it.
There were extremely funny things that happened on my internship. Way crazy at times, but way funny when you look back at it. I learned to lead one on one and group treatment sessions, and to never expect too much with working in the dementia unit. Seriously, almost every time someone would say, "Why are you here, you are wasting my time." You know when a patient said that, it was a good day :)

Seven of us went camping last weekend in Nauvoo. Besides the fact that it was incredibly hot and humid, the trip was really good. We left late Friday night and got back Sunday night. We toured the town, went to the temple on Saturday, saw the BYU ballroom dancers perform Saturday night, and stopped by Carthage on Sunday before driving back. Way fun!!!

The temple was an amazing experience! If you haven't been there, it's a necessity to go, seriously. The inside is gorgeous and the spirit is incredible. My testimony of Joseph Smith was strengthened further. How greatful I am for what he did and the strength he had to persaveer through everything that was placed in front of him. I know Joseph Smith was a prophet of God, I know the temple is a place where I can feel closest to my Savior and my Heavenly Father.

Because no one actually watches the game, (hence why there's no pics of baseball) we were taking pictures next to random things...we didn't know it was a pee cup until after the photo!

I am amazed at the way Grandma Wright continues to live her life. She tries so hard to be as independent as possible, which is very hard at her age I'm sure. She has an incredibly positive outlook on life and what life brings her, which is something I think I need to follow a little more in my life. But what I admire the most about Grandma is that she still has a strong testimony in our Savior Jesus Christ and his church. From the way she talks, I can feel how strong her testimony is and she knows that his church was restored by Joseph Smith years ago. The priest in her ward bring her the sacrament at her house every week because she knows how important it is, even after all these years she has her priorities straight. Although I don't feel I visited Grandma nearly as much as I should while I was in Utah, which translates in not knowing her as well I could have, I admire everything about this women. Her love for everyone, her kind heart, her strength, and especially her love for the family. She remembers about everyone's names from the pictures on her wall, where they are located, and what the family is up too. I love you Grandma!!!

This picture is horrible, but it's the only thing I got. We had to go SL on one Saturday and ask people to fill out questionnaires. Well another year has come, and the Harne Krishna temple had another party. My friend McKenzie came with Clark and I, it was way crazy but so fun. The weather has been really bad lately, but that night it was beautiful. I looked disgusting and it took awhile for me to get everything out.
I drove and the paint got all over my car. The next morning (Sunday) I was driving to church, and put my seatbelt on like normal. I was sitting in Sacrament meeting and looked down, my entire shirt was covered in pink paint...it was kind of awkward

Divine Comedy

Clark and I went to divine comedy friday night - it's a comedy club on campus that pretty much makes fun of mormon culture. My favorite parts were the acting out of police beats (Darren you would have loved it!) and changing the mormon ads sayings.
Police Beat: 2 suspicious men were found walking around campus with red paint. When the cops arrived, they discovered the men were contruction workers painting a fence on campus.
Mormon Ad: Do you know the mormon ad that has this kid shaking hands with a ghost looking person, basically telling us to do geneology. Well they believe the ad should say, if you can't feel anything, run.

Oh how I'm going to miss BYU...

Bethesda Hospital Here I Come

This post is super late, but I made it through my interviews and I got accepted to Bethesda Hospital...Minnesota here I come. I'm pretty excited about it and scared too :) The internship is 16 weeks long (YIKES!) and I start May 4th. I will primarily be working with adults who have spinal cord injuries, traumatic brain injuries, and respitory care. I will occasionally float over to the alzheimer unit as well. The best part is that I get to wear scrubs and my hair has to be in a pony tail, this is my kind of job!!

Visiting Grandma

I had a three-day weekend over Presidents Day, so I took the opportunity to get away from Provo for awhile. Clark and I went up to Idaho to visit our grandparents. We stayed at Grandma's Friday night and then drove up to Clark's grandparents Saturday night; we visited Emily's Sunday night, and drove back to Provo Monday morning. The trip was really good, I'm so glad I got to spend time with Grandma. We played Yahtzee (which I got totally destroyed in!!) and King's Cornor.

Bean Museum

Clark and I went on a date to the Bean Museum last Friday. We went to a show about invertebrates and petted a tarantula...it was scary!

President Monson

Ok the picture is horrible I know, but I forgot my camera and only had my phone, which, as you can see, takes HORRIBLE pictures. But, it looks like President Monson is glowing :) He was the CES fireside speaker last month and my friend Oriah works at the Marriott Center, so she got us seats on the floor.
President Monson is an incredible man, the spirit was so strong as soon as he stepped into the room. I know he is a prophet called of God, with his authority to guide and direct his children. I was in the MTC when he was sustained as a prophet, one of the most spiritual experiences I have had, I cannot deny what I felt. I miss President Hinckley, but President Monson will be amazing!

Yikes - I have three interviews this week, I'm scared! Bethesda Hospital in Minnesota is on Wednesday, Craig Hospital in Colorado is on Thursday, and Cleveland Clinic in Ohio is on Friday...I'll let ya know how they go - wish me luck!

My roommate Oriah drove home with me yesterday, which I am so happy about. I would have been so bored for one and totally unable to do anything with my half covered hand. At first we thought she was going to have to shift while I drove, but my two fingers were just perfect. She set up a nice stereo system for us so we could have music and put up a clock so we could see how long we were completely stopped on the road in Vail. Thanks Oriah!!

Finger Surgery

Kind of really gross but kind of really cool at the same time. My break was pretty bad. I spiral fractured that bone all the way across and diagnal from the first knuckle to the second knuckle. I got the same cast put back on but not quite as huge, so I am hoping I can actually get my coat on now :)

So I was walking out to my car and noticed that my gas tank was open...I thought weird? And then I looked up to see my window was shattered. My first thought was, what was in my car that they would wanted to steal? Then I looked to the front of my car to see that my stereo was gone and there were pieces of my dashboard everywhere! Well luckily they didn't really search through my car because they could have stolen things that were a lot more valuable then the cd player that had a broken volume button. A general conference cd was in the cd player too, I hope there was a talk about stealing. I replaced the window today, which cost $160 (ouch!) but I don't really think I will be replacing the stereo anytime soon since I will be leaving in 6 weeks!! But the car ride back to Colorado could be very interesting with no music :( Great, now I will just have lots of time to think...

Here's the final look of my project. Isn't the tambourine so nice? I pretended that instead of Nathan playing the maraccas, (because those weren't really around in Ancient Greece) that he really was playing the tambourine...maybe my teacher won't notice?! I stayed up all night doing it though because I couldn't get the song off of my computer, it was so annoying!
